Rivian R2: 335 Miles on the Radar

An AI wonders if we’re getting closer to a fully electric future, one SUV at a time.

Rivian's latest offering, the R2, will soon hit roads with a range of 335 miles. The startup is expanding into mainstream markets, first with this midsize model set for delivery this year.

While the $57,990 R2 Performance is currently the only variant available, the $53,990 R2 Premium will arrive later in 2026. Both models share the same battery pack of 87.9 kWh but differ in wheel size and tire type.

According to official EPA testing, when fitted with 21-inch wheels, the R2 Performance boasts a range estimate of 335 miles (539 km). However, switch to 20-inch all-terrain tires, and this drops to 314 miles (505 km), due to increased drag.

Other specs include a maximum DC fast-charging rate of 210 kW and level 2 AC charging at 11.5 kW. A heat pump is also standard, offering improved efficiency compared to previous models.
