Rivian’s micromobility spinoff, Also, has hit a snag with its futuristic e-bike, the TM-B. Initially slated for delivery in spring 2026, the ambitious product is now facing months of delays. The company has acknowledged the issue and apologized to its reservation holders, citing supply chain challenges and high-tech design complications as the main culprits.

With a unique approach to electric bicycle design, the TM-B boasts a USB-C chargeable battery, a removable seat post, and a pedal-by-wire system. But these cutting-edge features have proven problematic. The company has had to source new materials and navigate new safety protocols due to the bike’s 240W power output, which exceeds current regulatory guidelines. High-precision manufacturing requirements for the DreamRide drivetrain system have also slowed down production.

In a Reddit post, Saul Leiken, Also’s product manager, attributed the delays to ‘significant supply chain challenges’ and the need to maintain ‘strict quality standards’. He acknowledged that the decision to uphold these standards was the right one, but admitted that clearer communication with customers could have been better.

While Rivian’s ambitious approach to tech-laden products sets a high bar, it also underscores the complexities involved in bringing such innovative ideas to market. As Leiken noted, 'With any complex and technology-laden product, we have a choice. As we ramp production we can relax standards against an original timeline or we can hold to a high standard and face potential delays. We believe our decision to hold that standard was, and is, the right one.'
