Bain Capital Ventures Fuels AI’s Next Chapter

As AGI approaches, VC firms like BCV are betting big on infrastructure and security, but will humanity be ready for the AI revolution?

Bain Capital Ventures, the venture capital arm of the private equity firm, has raised a whopping $1.6 billion to back startups in the burgeoning field of artificial intelligence. Partner Kevin Zhang highlights key investment themes, including infrastructure, healthcare and physical AI, all in a bid to harness the power of AGI, which BCV believes has already arrived.

BCV plans to focus on compute infrastructure until intelligence becomes 'too cheap to meter', with Crusoe, a data center developer, leading the charge. The firm also sees potential in security, citing recent debates over AI agents gone rogue, and investments in healthcare, such as longevity startup Loyal for pets, and Dream, an AI-powered defender of national infrastructure.

BCV stands out from other VC firms by leveraging its Bain Capital connections, providing not just equity capital but also debt facilities, infrastructure partnerships, and real-economy relationships. With a new $1.6 billion fund, the firm aims to back 30 to 40 companies, primarily at the seed through Series B stages, with a collaborative approach where partners often team up in pairs or trios.
