Discord is rolling out an age-verification system today to estimate users' ages and require proof for accessing age-restricted content. The system will categorize users into adult, teen or unconfirmed groups, with varying levels of restrictions.

The original plan, which involved ID uploads or face scans, was scrapped due to user privacy concerns. The revised system now offers several options, with automatic age estimation and additional measures for teens.

More than 90 percent of users will not be asked to confirm their age, but those incorrectly placed in the 13-17 age group will have the option to prove their age.

Discord’s CTO, Stanislav Vishnevskiy, wrote: 'Based on your feedback, we committed to giving you more options that meet our high privacy standards.' The system is expected to take a few days to reach all user accounts.
