Technology giant Kiteworks has urged its customers to shut down their systems after receiving credible threat intelligence from law enforcement. The company, which provides tools for transferring large files and sensitive data, has notified its clients of an “imminent” attack that could occur this weekend. Kiteworks recommends that customers use its latest software release, 9.5.1, which includes fixes for all known vulnerabilities.

According to a copy of the email sent to customers, Kiteworks is concerned about the exploitation of unknown zero-day flaws that could leave their systems vulnerable. The company has recommended a precautionary shutdown while it and its law enforcement partners investigate the threat. There are currently thousands of customers across various industries, including healthcare, technology, and government, potentially affected.

One healthcare customer immediately shut down their server upon receiving the alert, causing delays and disruption to doctors’ ability to contact patients. This is not the first time Kiteworks has faced a cyber threat. In 2021, a vulnerability in its file-transfer application allowed an extortion gang to steal data from hundreds of organizations. The hackers held the data for ransom, threatening to release it if the victim organizations did not pay.

Kiteworks did not disclose which law enforcement agency alerted the company or which hacking group may be behind the current threat.
