Google may be expanding its ‘Call for Me’ AI feature to include personal calls, allowing you to send messages to friends and family without lifting a finger. The recent discovery of a ‘Gemini Calling’ introductory screen suggests the AI could handle simple messages like 'Call Mom and tell her I will be 15 minutes late' or 'Call John and ask if he is coming for dinner.'
While these automated calls may not replace entire conversations, they could be a handy option for those who prefer phone calls over texts or have family members who still use landlines. The feature might also include granular permissions, allowing users to control which apps can initiate automated calls.
However, it remains to be seen whether this expansion will see the light of day. Android Authority notes that Google might not release this feature, or the accompanying app settings, publicly.
For now, the world of AI-assisted communication remains a step closer to making our lives a little easier – or a little more automated. Whether this is a step forward or backward, only time will tell.
