The Spanish Springs shopping center in Sparks, Nevada, hosts many businesses, including a Spirit Halloween, a hearing aid supplier, and a Vietnamese restaurant. Itβs also home to a consulting agency that has received millions of dollars from one of the biggest pro-AI super PAC networks ahead of November's midterm elections.
Lantern Production Consultants LLC, a consulting agency with no physical presence beyond a post office box, has been paid around $20 million by Think Big, part of a network of pro-AI super PACs funded by the Leading the Future PAC. The network has raised over $140 million to influence political campaigns that align with AI-industry priorities in the midterms.
The mystery deepens with the appearance of other shell companies in Nevada, such as Summit Ridge Media Group LLC, Blue Horizon Compliance Consultants and Prusik Partners LLC, each with addresses in strip malls or shared office spaces. Nevada's secretary of state could find no records for these businesses.
Election watchdogs argue that these LLCs are designed to mask the identities of strategists, consultants, and production companies. The Campaign Legal Center has filed a complaint with the FEC, alleging that super PACs in the Leading the Future network have violated federal election laws by using shell companies. However, without a quorum of FEC commissioners, the case may remain unresolved.
The Leading Future networkβs strategy of supporting both Republicans and Democrats, while keeping its vendors hidden, has sparked speculation among experts. Itβs a tale of shadowy funds and a future where AIβs influence looms large, but the players remain obscured by legal obscurity.
