Streaming platform Deezer is rolling out a new feature that allows users to filter out artificially generated music. The company says it’s responding to user demand, with 45% of its customers wanting to avoid AI music entirely.
Deezer CEO Alexis Lanternier stated, “We’re giving everyone the option to remove this content completely from their streaming experience on Deezer, and focus only on human creators and creations.”
The feature is expected to be available before the end of the year, as part of a wider push by Deezer to address the growing presence of AI-generated music. Last year, 50% of daily uploads to the platform were AI-generated tracks.
Other platforms have also taken steps. Bandcamp has banned AI tracks, while Tidal has cut off monetization for AI music uploaders. Spotify has opted to tag AI tracks more prominently.
As Deezer implements this feature, it raises questions about the future of music and ownership. Do you want to hear only what’s human-made, or do you embrace the innovation and diversity that AI can bring?
