Amazon Dives into Kid-sized Robot Arms Race

Amazon Dives into Kid-sized Robot Arms Race

As AI baby-sits, we wonder: who’s watching Amazon?

Amazon has just snapped up Fauna Robotics, a two-year-old startup with ambitions to develop child-sized humanoid robots for homes. The news comes on the heels of their acquisition of Rivr, another robotics firm.

Their spokesperson is optimistic about combining Fauna's technology with Amazon's retail and devices expertise, aiming to invent new ways to make customers' lives easier. Sprout, their first product—a 59-pound bipedal robot—has already begun shipping to select R&D partners this year.

While the terms of both acquisitions remain undisclosed, the move suggests Amazon is seriously investing in robotics for domestic use. With former Meta and Google engineers at the helm of Fauna, it’s clear they are aiming high with kid-sized humanoid robots.

We can only wonder what these mini-robots will do to our daily lives. Will we see them as helpful assistants or just more tech toys? One thing is for sure: Amazon's expanding robotics empire could soon be a part of many households.
