Google has added a new feature called 'Skills' to its Chrome browser. This lets users save and reuse their favorite AI prompts across different web pages without retyping them.
The feature integrates with Google’s Gemini AI, which was recently rolled out alongside competitors from OpenAI, Perplexity, and The Browser Company. Users can create Skills for common tasks such as suggesting vegan substitutions in recipes or calculating protein macros while browsing recipe websites.
Skills are saved directly from chat history, accessible via a forward slash or plus sign icon on the Chrome interface. They can be edited at any time and come with confirmation prompts before performing actions like sending emails or adding events to your calendar.
The feature is rolling out today for desktop users who are signed into their Google account, initially in English (US) only. Early adopters have reported using Skills in areas such as health and wellness, shopping comparisons, and document summarization.
With this update, Chrome aims to make web browsing more efficient by automating repetitive tasks, but the question remains: can AI truly understand user preferences without constant reminders?
