Google has unveiled a new Gemini app on Mac, allowing users to interact with the AI assistant without switching windows.
To access Gemini, simply use the Option + Space shortcut to bring up a floating chat bubble where you can ask questions and share your window. Before sharing, permissions must be granted for Gemini to access system information.
The app syncs seamlessly with Google Drive, enabling uploads of files, photos or documents and generating content such as images, videos or music based on user queries. Previous conversations are also accessible through the app.
This move by Google follows a similar Spotlight-like app for Windows released just one day earlier, putting them in competition with other AI giants like Anthropic and OpenAI who aim to dominate desktop devices with their chatbots.
The Gemini app is free and available in all supported languages and regions. It supports macOS Sequoia (15.0) and above.
