In recent years, artificial intelligence (AI) dictation tools have become increasingly popular. Companies like Wispr Flow, Superwhisper, Willow and Monologue have been joined by a growing number of new entrants.
Judging from their latest release, hardware company Nothing, known for its sleek devices, is stepping into this fray with Essential Voice. This tool aims to streamline the dictation process, offering features such as custom voice shortcuts and direct language translation across over 100 languages.
Currently available on the Phone (3), Essential Voice will be rolled out to the Phone (4a) Pro later this month, with support for that model arriving next. Users can activate it through a dedicated key or from their keyboard settings. For iPhone users, a similar feature has already been introduced by Superwhisper.
What sets Nothing’s tool apart is its system-level integration and future plans to introduce app-based custom styling, allowing users to adjust the tone of AI-edited text in different contexts such as work and messaging. While this move signals an exciting development, it remains to be seen whether these tools will become indispensable or simply a minor convenience.
