Google is set to revamp its existing Google Assistant in cars with an advanced software update called Gemini. This new AI assistant promises a more conversational and natural experience for drivers, allowing them to ask for restaurant recommendations or playlist suggestions without the need to memorise commands.
The upgrade will begin in English-speaking regions of the US and is expected to roll out over coming months. Users with compatible cars can look forward to Gemini summarising text messages and providing real-time journey updates. Additionally, it offers insights into electric vehicle battery levels, enhancing the car's eco-friendliness.
Google's senior product manager Alankar Agnihotri stated that this update will not only apply to new cars but also existing ones through a software update. General Motors has already announced Gemini’s arrival in 4 million of their model year 2022 and newer vehicles, including Cadillac, Chevrolet, Buick, and GMC models.
The upgrade aims to make daily commutes more interactive and convenient for drivers. Google is also planning to expand the upgrade to additional regions and languages, eventually allowing users to access apps like Gmail, Calendar, and Google Home in their cars.
