What do you love about coffee? The caffeine boost, the creamy sweetness, or the ritual of brewing?
In a blind taste test with coffee professionals, four fully automatic machines from Terra Kaffe, Jura, De’Longhi and Philips were put to the ultimate coffee challenge. Despite their push-button convenience and endless choice, the results might surprise you.
The machines, designed for the average home user, were tested on a latte and an espresso using specific Forest Blend beans. The testers looked for milk heating quality, crema, extraction, and flavor. While some machines excelled in certain areas, none could match the barista-grade results from the experts.
The TK-02 from Terra Kaffe, with its glass milk carafe and super-cool touchscreen, offered a sophisticated experience. Jura’s model was praised for its 3.5-inch color display and 10 coffee strength levels. De’Longhi and Philips machines, both capable of making over 50 drinks, were known for their extensive personalization features.
Perky Blenders' experts emphasized the importance of temperature in milk steaming and a balanced, sweet flavor in the latte. For espresso, they focused on pressure and grind settings to achieve that perfect shot. The test highlighted that while machines can automate much of the process, the human touch still plays an irreplaceable role.
