Google’s AI Overviews get a link-laden makeover

Is humanity about to be overwhelmed by hyperlinks?

Google is tweaking its AI Overviews, adding more links to the bottom of search results and within answers. This change aims to provide users with richer information while navigating topics like urban green spaces.

With a new 'Further Exploration' section, AI outputs will now include detailed links to relevant articles and analyses. These suggestions might even lead you to controversial discussions on social media or forums, all in the name of knowledge-seeking.

The transition is subtle: click-happy users can now dive deeper into sources that informed the AI's answer. A pop-up preview before clicking can save time—or at least reduce the chance of accidental clicks.

But what does this mean for those long-acquainted with optimizing websites? They may find themselves back in the spotlight, as Google encourages a more connected and perhaps less monopolistic web experience.
