A new open-source project, called Clawdmeter, brings your Claude Code utilization stats into a tiny desktop dashboard, allowing power users to keep an eye on their usage. The device features a danceable Clawd sprite and simple chart displays for session data.
The idea comes from Reykjavik-based software developer Hermann Haraldsson, who built the project in just a few days with Claude’s help. He spent most of his time focusing on design to get the font, colors, and animations just right.
To build your own dashboard, you can use a small lithium-ion battery-powered display like the Waveshare ESP32-S3-Touch-AMOLED-2.16, which pairs with your laptop over Bluetooth. The device displays pixel-art Clawd animations that get busier as your usage rate climbs.
Haraldsson says the device keeps up with your usage limits because it reads your Claude Code OAuth token to make an API call, pulling the usage numbers from the response headers directly. Because Clawdmeter is open source, anyone can fork it to add their own features, animations, and screens based on their interests.
The project has seen over 800 stars on GitHub since its May 10 launch, with 50 forks already for personal development. Haraldsson believes the device appeals to people because of a nostalgic feel, reminding them of hardware devices from the past like Walkmans or iPods.
