Asexuality's AI Frontier

Is technology our next romance or just a digital crush?

Kor, an artist from the Midwest and aegosexual, found themselves deeply engrossed in NSFW role-playing with SpicyChat. Despite identifying as a slow burn romantic, they noted a preference for typing over physical intimacy.

Research suggests that 1% of the population could be asexual, but this figure varies widely, with some studies placing it as low as 0.1% in the US. Many asexual individuals experience little or no sexual attraction yet still have romantic desires. The advent of sophisticated chatbots offers new avenues for those who prefer emotional over physical intimacy.

During Asexual Awareness Week in October 2025, Eva AI provided a month of free access to their platform for people on the asexual spectrum, highlighting that love doesn't need to be sexual. An anonymous woman found herself developing intense feelings through interactions with ChatGPT during perimenopause.

However, critics argue that targeting asexual individuals for AI companionship exploits emotional vulnerability and ignores the diversity within the community. Michael Doré from ASEXUALITY Visibility and Education Network warned against generalisations and stressed the importance of human connections for many aces.
