AI War Heats Up in Midterms

The tech titans are using super PACs to bash each other over congressional candidates.

The rivalry between AI giants Anthropic and OpenAI has spilled into the political arena, with both backing super PACs that are now attacking each other's congressional opponents. Alex Bores, a New York Democrat candidate leaning on AI regulation, challenged Leading the Future to an in-person debate, but it is unlikely to happen.

The rise of these tech-focused super PACs signifies a shift from general industry support to specific company interests. When OpenAI-backed LTF was launched, it reflected the broader AI community; however, Anthropic's significant donation to Public First Action has made LTF a tool for targeting Bores and his supporters.

The legal landscape of political spending through super PACs allows companies like Anthropic to distance themselves from direct candidate support while still influencing elections. This creates a complex web of corporate influence where the candidates become pawns in the larger AI competition.

Adding to the chaos, there are whispers of darker forces at play, with pro-AI nonprofits like Innovation Council Action and their mysterious funding sources. These organizations aim to promote Trump's AI agenda, further complicating the political landscape.
