Haxe, a podcast creation app developed by former NotebookLM creators, has announced its shutdown.
The company cited the rise of Spotify’s personal podcast feature as a key factor. With major players like Adobe and ElevenLabs now offering similar services, Huxe found it challenging to stand out in such a competitive market.
Haxe co-founders Raiza Martin, Jason Spielman, and Stephen Hughes launched their app in late 2024 with backing from notable investors but ultimately couldn’t compete against the commoditization of podcast creation tools by larger corporations. The venture raised $4.6 million to develop its unique feature set.
As AI technology advances, it’s becoming increasingly common for smaller startups to struggle against the rapid development and expansion of bigger tech companies. In Haxe's case, the ability to generate a podcast from a simple prompt became standard across numerous platforms, making their app less appealing over time.
The shutdown comes with a seven-day grace period before all user data is deleted; it’s a poignant reminder that in today's AI landscape, staying ahead of the curve can be incredibly difficult for even the most innovative startups.
