Apple has unveiled an upgrade to its Shortcuts app, making it easier than ever to harness artificial intelligence (AI) for everyday tasks. With iOS 27, users can now simply describe what they want to achieve, and the app will handle the technical details.
The new feature, powered by Apple Intelligence, simplifies the process of creating complex workflows. Senior manager Cecilia Dantas highlighted an example: setting up a notification for your partner when you leave work, complete with an estimated time of arrival using Apple Maps. This means users no longer need to delve into app actions and variables.
The update offers a streamlined approach where users can simply type in their requests, like starting a favorite podcast after arriving home. Moreover, edits can be made by describing changes, ensuring the automation adapts to new needs on the fly.
Although this marks a significant step towards making advanced technology more accessible, it remains to be seen how much of an impact it will have outside of tech-savvy circles. The rollout with iOS 27 later this fall could bring about a wave of productivity boosts for many users.
