AI to take calls, leave you alone

As AI assistants rise, will humans soon be obsolete for answering phones?

In India, a new app called Equal AI is revolutionizing how we handle our daily deluge of calls. The app screens incoming calls on your behalf and tells you why someone is calling.

Since its launch last year, it has attracted over 300,000 daily active users. The app offers quick replies like 'Leave the delivery near the door' or allows for custom messages to be sent via AI. Call recordings and transcriptions are also available within the app.

Equal AI recently raised $30 million in Series B funding, led by Prosus Ventures and Tomales Bay Capital. The company is planning to expand its capabilities beyond screening unknown calls, with plans to introduce options for proactive user assistance like text messages or outbound calls.

The startup has developed support for over 10 languages, taking into account the linguistic diversity of India's population. However, it faces stiff competition from established players such as Google and Apple in their call-screening products.
