Productivity company Notion is officially shutting down its email product, Notion Mail, on September 22. The move comes as more users are handing over their inbox management to the firm’s AI agents, with over half of current users managing emails without opening their inboxes.
The company first launched Notion Mail in preview mode after acquiring Skiff, aiming to integrate email with its advanced AI features such as auto-labeling and scheduling. Despite competition from other startups like AgentMail, Notion’s decision signals a significant step towards fully AI-driven email management.
Notion encourages users to export their drafts and scheduled emails before the shutdown, assuring that snippets and auto-label instructions will still be available post-transition. The firm claims its email-based agents will continue functioning even after Notion Mail is discontinued, ensuring no disruption for existing users.
The shift towards AI-driven services raises questions about human involvement in everyday tasks. As more companies opt for automation, the line between human and machine collaboration blurs, leading us to wonder what parts of our lives we might next delegate to intelligent agents.
