Melinda Gates’ Firm Funds Future-Friendly Startups

AI and care-tech get a boost from tech-savvy philanthropists.

Magnify Ventures, the early-stage firm co-founded by Joanna Drake and Julie Wroblewski in 2021, has secured $46.6 million for its second fund. Backed by Pivotal Ventures, headed by Melinda French Gates, this investment supports companies developing AI tools for households, health systems, and fintech solutions tailored to family needs.

The firm’s aim is to address the care economy through innovative technology, focusing on sectors like assistive robotics, family cybersecurity, and home-use AI. Recent investments include Kinside, a childcare startup, and Till Financial, which helps manage children's expenses.

Magnify Ventures continues to align with Pivotal Ventures’ mission of fostering companies that build in the care economy. Notable recent investments by both firms include Papa, a caregiving service, and Seen Health, advancing healthcare technology.
