Meta has removed an AI feature that let users mix and match public Instagram images, facing backlash for the lack of consent.
The move comes amid growing concerns over how AI tools are used on social media. Critics argue such tech can lead to invasive or unethical practices, with platforms struggling to keep up.
Meta’s decision follows a similar path to other tech giants grappling with AI misuse: from naked celebrity photos to deepfake videos. The company acknowledges the feature has ‘missed the mark’ and vows to improve its controls.
But as Dylan Byers, co-founder of Puck News, notes: ‘This was just one piece in a puzzle that keeps moving.’
