Believe it or not, finding images online wasn't always possible. In July 2001, Google launched image search to solve the problem of wanting to see something rather than read about it. Now, as part of their 25th anniversary celebrations, they're revamping the experience with more AI and a gallery of web content tailored to your interests.
The new interface will show you images before you even type in a query, based on what you've been looking at online. It's a minimalist design that's refreshingly simple—a stark contrast to the AI buttons and drop-down menus cluttering Google’s homepage.
Google has come a long way since 2001. The green Versace dress Jennifer Lopez wore to the Grammy Awards in 2000 was the inspiration for image search back then, but today it's all about your web history influencing what you see. Will this new feature change how we interact with Google? Only time will tell.
Let’s hope Google’s AI remembers what we meant by “big fluffy cat” and not just what keywords were used in the query.
