Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) has announced a significant $5 billion investment in Anthropic, aiming to bolster the company’s computing power and expand its reach. As part of the deal, AMD will supply up to 2 gigawatts of AI GPUs, specifically its Instinct MI450, through a new Helios rack-scale system.

Anthropic plans to deploy the first gigawatt in early 2027, building on recent agreements with SpaceX and TeraWulf. The company has also signed deals with Google, Broadcom, Amazon, raising questions about potential partnerships with Meta.

In a multi-year engineering collaboration, AMD will integrate Anthropic’s Claude AI across its software development, engineering, and product lines. Tom Brown, Anthropic's cofounder and chief compute officer, states that this partnership secures the necessary capacity for training and serving Claude.
