OpenAI's AGI boss Fidji Simo is on medical leave for several weeks due to a neuroimmune condition. Meanwhile, the company is navigating leadership changes and public relations challenges following its Pentagon deal.
In her memo, Simo announced that OpenAI president Greg Brockman will lead product efforts while Denise Dresser takes over much of COO Brad Lightcap's commercial duties. Additionally, CMO Kate Rouch has stepped down to focus on health, with Gary Briggs temporarily taking the reins until a permanent replacement is found.
The departure of Simo and Rouch comes after OpenAI faced controversy for signing new terms of use with the Pentagon and discontinuing its AI video tool Sora. However, the company expressed optimism about its future leadership structure in tackling research, user growth, and enterprise applications.
Despite these changes, CEO Sam Altman remains confident: 'We have a strong leadership team focused on our biggest priorities.'
