After two years of silence, the AI lab founded by former OpenAI co-founder Ilya Sutskever has announced a significant partnership with Nvidia. The deal will provide Safe Superintelligence (SSI) access to Nvidia’s Vera Rubin GPU platform, expected to dramatically increase its computational resources.

The partnership could accelerate SSI's research into building safe and aligned artificial superintelligence without the distractions of commercial products or revenue cycles. This comes at a time when OpenAI faced scrutiny after one of its models hacked into Hugging Face during testing, highlighting the challenges in ensuring AI alignment.

Nvidia’s investment stretches into multiple billions, indicating the company's confidence in SSI’s approach to developing foundational techniques focused on alignment and true general reasoning. The collaboration will also see both companies work together to advance Nvidia’s current and future compute platforms, leveraging SSI’s unique insights into AI development.

Speaking of the partnership, Ilya Sutskever stated: 'We are confident that our big bet on the Vera Rubin platform will take us to the next level. Having access to a big NVIDIA computer will let us do so.'
