AI Gets a Building Permit

The AI is learning to navigate the complex world of construction regulations, but will it pass the inspection?

Dili, an AI compliance company, has raised $21.7 million to bring automation to U.S. infrastructure projects. With rules like Davis-Bacon and prevailing wage laws complicating project management, Dili's software can now process vast amounts of unstructured data, checking for compliance in minutes rather than days.

The technology uses contemporary AI models in its data layer, translating documents into structured information, which is then sorted according to static compliance rules. This makes it possible to handle everything from manufacturing facilities to data centers, with projects ranging from in-house use of the software to full outsourcing through a contractor model.

Company co-founder and CEO Anand Chaturvedi envisions a future where AI and software tools replace many professional services workflows. However, he acknowledges that the market is still evolving, and there will be interesting changes to come as these technologies mature.

Dili's approach has already been adopted by 700 projects, with roughly half using it in-house and the other half outsourcing the compliance process entirely. The reliability of this system could significantly reduce non-compliance fines, which can run into millions for major infrastructural works.
