Snapchat Ditches AI in Spotlight

Is humanity’s creativity under threat from algorithmic art?

Snapchat has made a bold move to curb fully AI-generated content on its platform, aiming to preserve the authenticity of user posts. The update means that only videos created by real people will feature in Spotlight recommendations. Snapchat hopes this adjustment will highlight genuine creativity while aligning with broader industry trends towards deprioritizing AI slop.

However, it’s not a total ban on AI; creators can still use Snapchat’s AI tools to enhance or edit their content. The social network is part of a growing trend as companies like LinkedIn and Meta revise their policies in response to criticism over low-quality AI-generated material. YouTube has also tightened its rules against inauthentic content, including generic or repetitive posts.

Despite the pushback, some argue that AI can still play a constructive role in enhancing human creativity. Snapchat’s changes are part of an ongoing effort to balance technological innovation with user experience and authenticity.
