Gen Z, disillusioned with endless swiping, are turning to an AI matchmaker called Ditto. Co-founded by Allen Wang and Eric Liu after dropping out of UC Berkeley, this app eschews swiping for genuine connection.
Instead, users text their way through a personalised onboarding process where the Ditto chatbot asks detailed questions about personality, interests, and dating preferences. The algorithm then matches based on underlying traits rather than surface-level hobbies.
Every Wednesday at 7 p.m., matched pairs are messaged to meet in person for a real date. The app is currently only available at a few dozen colleges but has secured $9.2 million in seed funding, making it an intriguing player in the dating landscape.
Ditto’s irreverent marketing and unique approach to minimising friction could redefine how young adults connect online, or perhaps just add another layer of complexity to our already tangled digital relationships.
