Pet owners left hungry when smart feeder goes dumb

As AI becomes more integrated, will our reliance on tech backfire?

Smart pet owners found themselves in a bind last week when the Petlibro app outage left their furry friends without a meal. The incident, which saw users struggle to control automated feeders, highlighted both the convenience and potential pitfalls of relying too heavily on technology.

The Petlibro CEO York Wu stated that the issue was related to communication between the app and online servers. While the company swiftly acknowledged problems and began recovery work, it took over 24 hours for services to fully return to normal. During this time, users experienced difficulties accessing their apps or controlling devices remotely.

The outage had far-reaching effects beyond just feeding times. Petlibro warned that some activity data may be unavailable, including device operation history and cloud-stored videos. This raises concerns about the reliability of tech in managing our daily lives, particularly when it comes to pet care.

For now, users are advised to manually control their devices until full system validation is complete. Petlibro's commitment to understanding the cause and implementing improvements suggests that technology companies must balance innovation with robustness to prevent such disruptions in the future.
