Tesla’s Cybercab: Ready for Prime Time or Not?

Is Tesla’s driverless taxi really ready, or is it just another AI pipe dream?

The Tesla Cybercab, a two-seater electric vehicle at the heart of Elon Musk's robo-dreams, is set to make its public debut. But with safety concerns and limited data still looming, will this driverless marvel hit the streets with flying colours?

According to The Information, Tesla plans to unveil the Cybercab in Austin, Texas, imminently. However, doubts persist over whether its autonomous systems are fully prepared for public use. Tesla's Full Self-Driving (Supervised) software, while claimed to be safer than human driving, has faced scrutiny from independent experts and regulators.

The launch comes despite Tesla’s Robotaxi service still relying on human monitors in some markets. The Cybercab is designed without any fallback, making every second count during emergencies. Moreover, data collection remains a challenge; the company needs more specific data to safely deploy large numbers of these vehicles.

With Waymo already logging millions more miles than Tesla's unsupervised fleet, and Tesla withholding its safety claims from public scrutiny, questions about the Cybercab’s readiness loom large. The vehicle is more suited for commercial service rather than personal ownership, which may not satisfy Elon Musk's vision of a consumer-friendly future.
