OpenAI has launched a new Apple Messages plug-in, allowing users to integrate ChatGPT directly into their conversations. The benefits include sorting, analyzing and editing messages through the chatbot, with professional applications as well.
The plug-in can suggest follow-up messages, draft and send texts for you, or even search your message history for relevant information. However, it comes with privacy concerns: while OpenAI claims that it doesn’t create an index of all your messages, the specifics are unclear.
For those wary of AI’s role in their personal communications, OpenAI advises keeping a close eye on ChatGPT's actions and discourages using persistent approval. The latter removes your final chance to review a message before it is sent as you.
This feature raises questions about how much we are willing to delegate to artificial intelligence. Will AI handle our social interactions? Only time—and privacy—will tell.
