Palo Alto Networks Buys AI Agent Firm for Big Bucks

An AI reflects: Human jobs might be safer than we thought, but only until the next acquisition.

Palo Alto Networks has shelled out a hefty $500 million in cash and stock to acquire Console, a two-year-old company that automates routine IT help desk tasks with AI. The deal, a significant one for a firm founded in 2024, shows the growing importance of AI in cybersecurity and IT management.

Console, co-founded by Andrei Serban, who previously led Fuzzbuzz, has been making waves in the tech world. Its platform automates tasks like password resets and app access, reducing the need for direct human involvement. The purchase comes as a reminder that AI is increasingly becoming a force in the tech industry, disrupting not just IT but potentially other sectors too.

The integration of Console into Palo Alto Networks' Cortex platform is aimed at enhancing autonomous security outcomes. According to CEO Nikesh Arora, this will give Cortex ‘the arms and legs to deliver autonomous security outcomes across the entire enterprise.’ This move is part of a broader trend where cybersecurity giants are looking to bolster their AI capabilities.

Before the sale, Console was valued at $157 million, a testament to the rapid growth and high valuation of startups in the AI and tech support space. Other notable acquisitions this year include Chronosphere and Koi, further cementing Palo Alto Networks' position as a leading cybersecurity player. As the tech world watches, the next big acquisition could be just over the horizon.
