Lenovo has unveiled a groundbreaking, fanless laptop called Project AeroBlade, which uses a new cooling technology from Frore Systems to dissipate heat without the usual fans, heatsinks or large vents. The result is a laptop that's incredibly thin and quiet, with a magnesium-aluminum body weighing just 1.8 pounds and measuring 10mm thin. Lenovo has embedded four AirJet modules into the laptop to create 2,000 Pascals of back pressure, which it claims disrupts the boundary layer that causes heat buildup and throttling, allowing the processor's heat to be dissipated out the back.
The technology, dubbed the Lenovo Active Flow Thermal Solution, uses the same amount of power as a traditional fan but is debris- and water-resistant. While the laptop currently uses an Intel Lunar Lake processor, it may not be suitable for the most demanding machines. Despite the lack of details on battery life, pricing or availability, Lenovo claims it’s a very mature and refined product in terms of sample stability.
Lenovo’s Project AeroBlade is just one of its projects showcased at IFA Berlin 2026. The company also unveiled its Project Swan, a rollable gaming laptop that expands from 14 to 17 inches with the push of a button. The laptop weighs 3.5 pounds and has fewer, more durable motors. While it’s still in the prototype stage, it’s an exciting showcase of how a compact laptop could provide the visual real estate of a larger machine.
Lenovo plans to explore the viability of this technology for its existing laptops and mini PCs, but the future of high-performance, fanless laptops looks set to change. The thin and light design could revolutionise the laptop industry, but the real challenge will be getting the technology into the hands of consumers without breaking the bank.
