Microsoft has refreshed its Surface Pro 12-inch and Surface Laptop 13-inch devices with Qualcomm's Snapdragon X2 Plus chips, promising better battery life and performance. However, the price increase is significant, with the Surface Pro 12-inch starting at £869.99 and the Surface Laptop 13-inch at £1,249.99.
The Snapdragon X2 Plus chips are expected to deliver more efficient battery performance, faster graphics, and quicker AI processing. On the Surface Pro 12-inch, this means an extra hour of web browsing, while the Surface Laptop 13-inch gains two extra hours.
The displays feature a brightness upgrade from 400 nits to 500 nits, and both devices maintain their existing port configurations, including two USB-C 3.2 ports and a USB-A 3.2 port on the Surface Laptop 13-inch. Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity are also supported.
Microsoft has reintroduced the black colour option, alongside platinum silver and violet, and will offer a 5G configuration for the Surface Pro 12-inch. Despite these upgrades, the price increase may make these devices less attractive to budget-conscious consumers.
