Nvidia’s Shield TV Pro has just received a $100 price hike, making it a whopping $299.99. This hefty increase is the latest consequence of the memory shortage that has sent prices soaring for gadgets from digital cameras to game consoles. When the Pro model launched in 2019, it was priced at a more affordable $199.99 with a Tegra X1+ processor, 3GB of RAM, and 16GB of storage. However, the cost of components has dramatically escalated, forcing Nvidia to raise the price.
The entry-level version of the Shield TV, which was once a more budget-friendly option at $149.99, is no longer available. Nvidia has ceased production of the standard Shield TV model and is now concentrating solely on the Pro version. This move leaves users seeking a cheaper alternative with no options, as the Google TV Streamer, for example, remains a more affordable option at $149, even after recent price hikes.
The high demand for Nvidia’s other hardware, such as GPUs and AI chips, has been a significant driver of these component price increases. Despite these hikes, Nvidia remains in the driver’s seat, dominating the AI race. The price increase on the Shield TV Pro is expected to reduce demand, but it won’t hinder Nvidia's market position.
