BMW’s latest electric offering, the iX4, is a potent response to the rising tide of Chinese electric vehicles. With a formidable 428-mile range and a dual-motor setup delivering impressive performance, the iX4 is aiming to compete head-to-head with Tesla’s Model Y.
Despite the iX4’s impressive credentials, it’s unclear whether BMW can match the cost-effectiveness of Chinese manufacturers. The iX4 starts at $66,200 (excluding fees), putting it at a premium compared to the Model Y, which starts at $47,400 in the US.
The iX4’s innovative features, such as its Gen6 battery and 800V architecture, ensure it can charge quickly, offering up to 184 miles of range in just 10 minutes. This, combined with BMW’s Symbiotic Drive technology, positions it as a formidable contender in the electric vehicle market.
BMW’s product range, including the i3 and iX3, and its upcoming Neue Klasse iterations of the flagship 7 series, provides customers with a diverse selection. However, it remains to be seen if this variety will be enough to offset the cost factor in the battle against China’s EV manufacturing might.
