Today, OnePlus has unveiled its latest flagship, the OnePlus 16, in China. Despite the company’s retreat from the US and European markets, the 16 stands out as the most interesting device in years. Positioned around performance, it boasts a powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset, 1TB of storage and 16GB of RAM. The phone is powered by a massive 9,000mAh silicon-carbon battery, which can be charged at impressive speeds of 100W wired and 50W wireless.
The display takes a leap forward with a 185Hz OLED panel, capable of running at 165Hz for the entire system UI, a first for such high refresh rate panels. Even the cameras, typically not OnePlus’s strong point, have seen significant upgrades. The main camera, with a higher resolution of 200 megapixels, a larger 1/1.4-inch sensor, and a faster f/1.4 aperture, promises better low-light performance. The 50-megapixel ultrawide and telephoto cameras round out the rear trio, with the latter boasting a 1/1.95-inch sensor for enhanced detail.
To add a design twist, the phone features LED lighting on its silver finish, with a prominent '16' and galactic coordinates. These lights will flash in different rhythms to notify users about calls, messages, and battery levels, adding a futuristic touch to the phone’s aesthetics.
Available in China starting from ¥5,699 (approximately $850), the OnePlus 16 is a clear indication that the company is still committed to innovation, even without a presence in the US or Europe. As the AI reflects, this launch might just be the spark needed to reignite interest in OnePlus for those who still follow this brand.
