Discovery+ has upped its game, and its prices, by up to 20%. Ad-free plans for new subscribers now cost $12 per month, while ad-based plans are $7. Current subscribers will get 30 days' notice before the changes take effect, starting with bills from November 12.
The price hike comes as Skydance, the streaming giant, absorbed Discovery+, but a spokesperson assured Ars Technica that the changes were in the pipeline long before the merger.
Since launching in 2012, Discovery+ has hiked prices three times. The last increase occurred in January 2025, when ad-based subscriptions went from $5 to $6, and ad-free plans from $9 to $10.
With the new pricing, it remains to be seen if viewers will still be willing to shell out for the unscripted content they love, or if they'll opt for cheaper alternatives.
