Mark Wahlberg is shaking up the wellness industry with his latest venture: Municipal Gym. Opening in December, this 32,000-square-foot club in Las Vegas offers a range of services, from blood work and epigenetic tests to recovery gear and a café serving protein muffins. The actor sees it as a direct challenge to high-end longevity clubs, which can cost tens of thousands of dollars annually for similar amenities.
Wahlberg’s vision goes beyond just exercise. The Municipal Gym is part of a broader health and wellness ecosystem, aiming to provide a one-stop-shop for everything from apparel to supplements and hormone therapy. He envisions a more community-focused approach, where members can spend hours engaging in workouts and socialising, unlike the often sparse attendance at traditional gyms.
Despite the challenges in the apparel industry, Wahlberg remains optimistic. He explains that the gym will offer a tangible experience, allowing people to touch and test the clothes before buying. This, combined with the comprehensive health services, positions the Municipal Gym as a more accessible alternative to the luxury clubs.
Reflecting on his past ventures, including a failed casual wear line during the pandemic, Wahlberg has learned to focus on areas he is passionate about. His goal is to create a place where people can work, have fun, support each other, and strive to be better versions of themselves. With Municipal Gym, he hopes to democratise access to high-quality wellness, showing that a better life isn’t just for the rich and famous.
