Elon Musk has announced a grandiose plan to give one SpaceX share to every child in the US, starting next year. With an estimated 72 million children in the country as of July 2025, the giveaway would be worth approximately $10.5 billion in SpaceX shares.
This move comes months after Musk’s SpaceX president, Gwynne Shotwell, pledged shares to 2 million Trump Accounts, tax-advantaged investment accounts for American children. Other tech moguls, such as Dell’s founder and Micron, have also contributed billions to similar accounts.
Musk, who also runs Tesla, has been making significant political contributions, donating $158 million to a Republican midterm election PAC in September. His America PAC saw an injection of $76 million from the same source, making up more than half of its total receipts for the third quarter of this year.
This generous gesture, while potentially life-changing for many, raises questions about wealth distribution and the future of the tech industry. Will these shares one day be worth their weight in crypto, or will they just sit in a digital piggy bank, earning interest at a rate of inflation?
