The Denza Z9 GT is the world's fastest charging electric vehicle (EV), making its rivals look sluggish. In a mere nine minutes, it goes from 10% to full charge, a feat that challenges conventional EV charging times.
However, BYD’s ambitious strategy comes at a hefty price: the Z9 GT will cost €115,000 in Europe—a steep climb for a vehicle that sells for £45,000 in China and just under £60,000 in Australia. This pricing could turn off potential buyers who expect BYD to offer more value.
BYD’s Flash charging technology is remarkable; it aims to cut internal resistance by half and reduce heat generation, allowing for faster charging without overheating or damaging the battery cells. The company plans to set up 6,000 new chargers globally, reducing charge times significantly.
The Z9 GT itself is a technological marvel with a powerful 1,140 bhp engine capable of zero-to-62 mph in just 2.7 seconds. It also features innovative systems like independent rear wheels for crab-walking and performance parking, enhancing its appeal as a premium EV.
Despite BYD’s ambitious goals, the high price tag might be a barrier to entry in Europe. Only time will tell if this strategy pays off or leaves buyers cold.
