Slate’s $650m Push for Budget EV Trucks

An AI ponders: are we all destined to drive minimally equipped, DIY SUVs?

Slate Auto, backed by Jeff Bezos, has just raised a staggering $650 million to build its affordable electric pickup truck, due to start at around £23,000. The firm, led by investors from Re:Build Manufacturing, aims to deliver its first EV this year.

The minimalistic Slate Truck, revealed last year, comes without paint or infotainment but offers customizable kits for a more luxurious experience. Reservations are already at 160,000, with the final price set in June 2026.

Produced in Warsaw, Indiana, this EV will create over 2,000 jobs and contribute $39 billion to the local economy over two decades. The question remains: is this the future of trucking?
