WhatsApp Plus: A Few Bucks for More Fun

Is this the future of social media monetization, or just another way to skin a cat?

WhatsApp is testing a 'Plus' subscription that offers users exclusive stickers and other cosmetic perks. The service, available on Android first, costs €2.49 per month, similar to Snapchat Plus.

The subscription includes features such as custom themes, icons, ringtones, the ability to pin up to 20 chats, and bulk chat settings. However, it is not currently supported for WhatsApp Business users.

Meta also recently began testing an Instagram Plus subscription focused on exclusive Story-related features, including different Story audiences and extended Stories.

The move towards monetization in messaging apps could signal a shift towards more premium services in the future, although privacy concerns may still linger among some users.
