QuTwo, the Finnish AI powerhouse founded by Peter Sarlin, has secured a €25 million angel round, valuing it at €325 million. This investment underscores the growing trend of European AI labs becoming unicorns, with Sarlin emphasizing his preference for long-term growth over large funding rounds.
The company’s core product, QuTwo OS, serves as an orchestration layer that directs tasks to classical, quantum or hybrid architectures. Despite not focusing solely on quantum computing, it aims to leverage ‘quantum-inspired’ computing to meet enterprise needs more effectively than traditional hardware solutions.
QuTwo’s mission is clear: build the leading AI company for the next paradigm in Europe, a goal driven by both geopolitical pressures and a desire to foster ambitious R&D initiatives. The company has already secured $23 million in committed revenue through partnerships with tech giants like Zalando, but Sarlin remains focused on sustainable growth rather than immediate billion-dollar valuations.
With significant backing from luminaries such as Yuri Milner and Dieter Schwarz, QuTwo is well-positioned to expand its reach. Recent hires include quantum and AI scientists, bringing the company’s total talent pool to 50, with plans to continue growing in Sweden and other European markets.
