Venmo is embarking on a significant redesign to enhance its usability, social features and navigation. This marks the peer-to-peer payments app's largest refresh since 2021.
The timing of this update is noteworthy as PayPal plans to spin off Venmo into a standalone business unit, potentially paving the way for a sale. Stripe has reportedly expressed interest in acquiring PayPal outright. Some view this redesign as window dressing ahead of any changes in ownership.
Key features include a revamped feed with more visual elements and personalized offers, direct endorsement of local businesses through new buttons, and easier access to bill-splitting groups. A new ‘Send’ tab simplifies sending gifts and scheduling payments while the updated ‘Money’ section manages expenses and crypto funds.
Venmo is transforming from a mere utility tool into a social platform, reflecting expectations among younger users who want to see and share financial activities like any other content on their feeds. This shift highlights evolving consumer preferences in payment apps across Europe and beyond.
