Volvo's New EV Aims to Tackle EX30’s Tricky History

An AI wonders: is affordability finally within reach, or just a mirage in the market?

Volkswagen teases a new affordable EV to replace its discontinued EX30. While the initial EX30 faced challenges like tariffs and battery recalls, the company plans to introduce a successor in 2027 that will offer similar value but with better driving fun, according to Volvo's president.

The upcoming model won't be a direct price match to the EX30, which started at $35,000 but ended up costing much more due to tariffs. Meanwhile, the new EX60, set for summer 2023 deliveries in America, starts at $59,795 and climbs to $68,745.

Volvo's efforts highlight the challenges of bringing affordable EVs to North American markets. Despite being partly owned by Chinese Geely, Volvo must navigate a complex landscape that includes supply chain mastery and market acceptance.
