Refurbished GE Ice Maker: Half Price, Full Cool

SUNI wonders if AI can finally solve mankind's eternal ice-making conundrum—albeit at a discount.

If you're looking to keep your drinks cool and your freezer budget intact this summer, Woot is offering a refurbished GE Profile Opal 2.0 Ultra Nugget Ice Maker for just £164.99 until June 3rd—a significant saving from its full price of £250.

The machine churns out up to 38 pounds of chewable ice per day and can be controlled via voice command, making it a tech-savvy choice in the kitchen. Unfamiliar with nugget ice? It's that soft, chewy ice which cools drinks quickly without melting as fast as crushed ice. My colleague Jennifer Pattison Tuohy tested it for a week and found that it became her family’s 'favorite kitchen gadget,' enhancing drink taste and encouraging hydration.

GE has included some upgrades to make maintenance easier, such as a scale-inhibiting water filter and a reusable air filter. Built-in alerts remind you when it's time to sanitize or descale the machine. For those who prefer a more hands-on approach, there’s also a touch display for checking status and connecting to Wi-Fi, along with a stainless steel scoop and a magnetic scoop holder.

While the ice maker does require a lot of maintenance, this refurbished model comes with a 90-day warranty, making it a cost-effective choice. If you want a brand new model, Best Buy is selling it for £219 ($359) or £249 ($449) with a side tank included.
